HISTORY OF THE LE MANS CLASSIC
For 100 years the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a major catalyst in the field of technology, has written the history of motorsport – and that of the motor car. The race was held for the first time in 1923, an almost impossible feat for the era!
The Le Mans Classic is unique and it is reserved for cars that have raced in the 24 Hours of Le Mans (the car itself or another of the same type).
The cars, classified by period, make up six distinct grids and each one takes part in three races between 16:00 on Saturday and 16:00 on Sunday – 24 Hours.
The times of the three heats (one run at night for each grid) are added up and give the main overall classification. Another classification in keeping with pure Le Mans tradition is calculated on an Index based on age and cubic capacity. The six cars with the same number, one per grid, make up a team and are also classified as such. Two additional categories have been created; Group C (1982-1993) and Endurance Racing Legends (1990-2010).
Le Mans Classic 2025 will once again be the opportunity to escape in another motorsport era: 550 racing cars on track, more than 8,500 vintage club cars, numerous animations, an auction… without forgetting Little Big Mans, the grid with mini racing cars driven by children from 7 to 12!
