TOUR SUMMARY

We will be organising our 12th tour to watch the Mille Miglia in 2022 with a 7 day and 10-day tour option. Both tours start in Monaco after our 2022 Monaco Historic GP tour or on Lake Como where we arrive late afternoon on the first day of our tour. On the 2nd day, we drive from Lake Como via the Aprica Pass, Lake Iseo and the Mille Miglia Museum in Brescia to Lake Garda where we are based for 6 nights. The following day is devoted to watching the start of the 2022 Mille Miglia and in the morning we drive to nearby Brescia to watch the Mille Miglia cars assemble. We then visit the Mille Miglia museum again where all the Mille Miglia cars are assembled with the 400 crews having lunch. In the afternoon we return to Desenzano which is the first check-point on the 1,000 mile Mille Miglia route so we see all the cars pass through. The following day is devoted to relaxing on Lake Garda with a boat trip to Sirmione the "jewel in the crown" of Lake Garda. The following day we drive to Maranello, home of Ferrari, to visit the Ferrari museum and shops followed by St. Agata where we visit the Lamborghini museum. Late afternoon we drive 10 miles to Modena where we visit the newer Ferrari Museum. In the evening there is an option to watch the Mille Miglia cars arriving in Parma at their last overnight check-stop before they arrive back in Brescia the following afternoon. On Saturday we drive back to Brescia to watch the Mille Miglia cars crossing the finishing line. On Sunday, the 7th day of the tour, we enjoy a tour of Lake Garda before a final dinner at our hotel.  On Monday, participants on the 7-day tour make their own way home whilst the 10-day tour spend 3 days driving back to Calais with overnight stops on France's Lake Annecy and Beaune.

The costs are in euros due to the uncertainty of predicting sterling to euros conversion rates and are based on 2 people sharing a car and hotel bedroom

The costs include the following:

• Accommodation in 4-star stylish hotels, ( 9 nights on 10-day tour and 7 nights on 7-day tour )
• 3-course dinners, ( 8 nights on 10-day tour 6 nights on 7-night tour  )
• Breakfast daily
• Rally plate
• Comprehensive road books with daily itineraries and detailed route notes
• Michelin maps of  France and Italy with the daily route highlighted
• Services of a Tour Director who accompanies the tour throughout
• DFDS return ferry Dover-Calais-Dover with priority boarding and premium lounge access

NOT INCLUDED ARE THE FOLLOWING:

• Lunches, snacks, coffees, etc.
• Drinks with dinner
• Entry to places of interest eg.museums, gardens, villas, etc.
• Lake ferries or autoroute tolls.

It is then only half an hour to our hotel, for the next 6 nights, in Desenzano on Lake Garda, at the bottom left-hand corner of the lake.

Day 3 Wednesday,  Desenzano del Garda to Brescia to see the build-up to the 2022 Mille Miglia  ( 40 miles return )

Today is the start of the 2022 Mille Miglia so we drive into nearby Brescia. The atmosphere is amazing and we spend the day absorbing the ambiance in this historic city with its rich artistic heritage including Roman temples and triumphalist architecture, (see photos below).

Around mid-day, we leave Brescia and drive 2 miles to the Mille Miglia museum where the Mille Miglia cars are parked whilst the crews have lunch.

 

 

 

 

 

Early afternoon we return to our hotel. This afternoon the 2022 Mille Miglia cars come through Desenzano where there is the first checkpoint on the 1,000-mile route so we can watch over 350 Mille Miglia cars drive through the centre of the town from 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm a sight for sore eyes indeed, (see photos below).

Day 4 Thursday, May 14th   A day exploring Sirmione, Lake Garda

We spend a leisurely morning exploring Desenzano then take the pedestrian ferry to Sirmione our lunch stop.

Sirmione is a charming and atmospheric, medieval town on a peninsula at the south of the lake less than 10 miles est from Desenzano is often described as "the jewel in Lake Garda's crown.

The town can only be accessed on foot by crossing the moat of a 16th-century castle at the town's entrance.

We then return by boat to Desenzano del Garda.
Dinner tonight is in the hotel's restaurant

Day 5 Friday,   Today there are two options:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We also visit the various Ferrari shops as well as taking a peak over the wall at the Ferrari test track the famous "Pista di Fiorano", ( see photo below right).

There is an option to have lunch in the Cavallino restaurant, a Ferrari themed restaurant just across the road from the Ferrari factory and often frequented by Ferrari managers and directors.

We then drive 15 miles to S'Ant Agata where the Lamborghini museum is located next to the factory.

 

Late afternoon we drive 10 miles to Modena and visit the Ferrari museum devoted to the life of Enzo Ferrari which opened in March 2012, see photos below:

Late afternoon we leave Modena and drive to Parma where we watch the Mille Miglia cars arrive on their last overnight stop before arriving in Brescia tomorrow.

We then return back to Desenzano and our hotel.
This evening you are free to make your own dinner arrangements.

Day 6 Saturday 

 Desenzano to  Brescia to watch the Mille Miglia cars return  ( 40 miles )

After a leisurely breakfast at our hotel we drive to Brescia to watch the Mille Miglia cars returning after their 1,000-mile trip.

Dinner tonight is in Desenzano in a restaurant around the harbour

Day 7 Sunday           A tour of Lake Garda   ( 85 miles )

We drive around Lake Garda in a clockwise direction enjoying dramatic scenery further north ending in impressive rocky cliffs, sometimes swathed in pines which hug the shoreline of the northern tip. Our morning coffee stop is at Gardone Riviera just north of Salo where we visit the fascinating Il Vittoriale villa and beautiful botanical gardens.

Our lunch stop is a little further up the lake.

Our afternoon route then takes us clockwise up the western shore of Lake Garda to Limone Sul Garda

before arriving at Riva del Garda at the top of the lake and Lake Garda's most famous holiday resort.

In the afternoon we drive down the east shoreline of Lake Garda to our coffee stop Malcesine which, after Sirmione, is arguably the prettiest village on the lake.

After this we continue back around the lake to the southern shore returning to Desenzano for our last dinner at the hotel.

Day 8 Monday  Desenzano del Garda to Talloires, Lake Annecy 

The 7-day tour ends today and participants make their own way home, Other participants drive west on the motorway to Lake Annecy where our hotel is a converted abbey in Talloires arguably the prettiest village on the lake.

Day 9 May 19th  Talloires to Beaune   ( 200 miles including 80 miles on motorways ) 

We take a scenic mountain route northwest to our lunch stop one of France's most beautiful villages. After lunch, we continue to Beaune where we visit a nearby fascinating chateau museum hosting an eclectic collection of Abarth sports cars, classic motorcycles, model airplanes, vintage fire engines and in the grounds of the chateau a collection of airplanes !

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We then visit Beaune itself

 

 

Our hotel tonight is on the outskirts of Beaune in the wine village of Puligny Montrachet.

 

 

Day 10 Wednesday   

Beaune to Calais,  then DFDS ferry from Calais to Dover  ( 320 miles including 290 miles on motorways )

We take the motorway to Calais where we catch the afternoon ferry to Dover
