2019 TOAD'S BRITTANY TOUR
A 9 day tour of Brittany concentrating on South Brittany and North Brittany's coastal regions


 

9 DAY TOUR: AUGUST 29th- SEPTEMBER 7th ( 9 days/ 8 nights )

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

A 9 day tour of Brittany starting with an overnight ferry crossing to St.Malo from Portsmouth.We then drive south to our first hotel near Vannes in Southern Brittany. The next day we explore the Golfe du Moribhan area by boat then visit Carnac and  Quiberon before arriving at our chateau hotel for the next 2 nights just south of Hennebont near Lorient. The following day we visit Concarneau and Pont Aven a pretyy town famous for the artists that it attracted in the ???.
On our 4th day we visit Locoran in 




 

Thursday 29th August Portsmouth-St. Malo ferry

Day 1 Friday 30th August  St. Malo to Missilac ( ?// miles )

The overnight ferry from Portsmouth arrives in St Malo at 8.15am and after re-assembling we drive south to Missilac where  Domaine de la Bretesche, our 5 star hotel, is located. See their website: https://www.bretesche.fr/

Day 2 Saturday 31st August  Day 2 Missilac to Kervignac   ( ?// miles )

Our route takes us west to Port Navalo our morning coffee stop where there is an option to take a boat ride around the scenic Moribhan Gulf .We then drive around the gulf  through Vannes to La Trinite sur Mer and Carnac where we visit the stones  ???? 
We then drive north west to St.Cado our afternoon coffee stop where we stop to visit the island linked by a pedestrian causeway.  
We then continue to our hotel for the next two nights, Chateau de Locguenole, just south of Hennebont.

Day 3 Sunday 1st September Kervignac, local excursion    ( ?// miles )

After a leisurely breakfast we drive to Concarneau our morning coffee stop where we visit the old walled town. Our lunch stop is Pont -Aven a pretty village famous as the haunt of  artists ??? 
We then drive back to our hotel Chateau de Locguenole.

 

Day 4 Monday 2nd September  Kervignac to Locquirec   ( ?// miles )

Bidding farewell to Chateau de Locguenole we head west via Quimper to Locoran, another of France's most beautiful villages and  our lunch stop.We then drive aroud the Crozon peninsula before heading north-east to our hotel for the next two nights, the Grand Hotel des Bains, in Locquirec.

Day 5 Tuesday 3rd September Locquirec local excursion    ( ?// miles )

After a leisurely breakfast we relax around the hotel with an opportunity to explore the local area.

Day 6 Wednesday 4th September  Locquirec to Ploumanach   ( ?// miles )

We bid farewell to the Grand Hotel des Bains and drive down the coast to nearby Morlaix where we explore the old town

2018 WINTER WEEKEND IN PROVENCE TOUR 

FLYING TO NICE FROM LIVERPOOL OR GATWICK IN THE UK AND HIRING CARS FOR THE 4 DAYS OF THE TOUR

 

4 DAY TOUR: DECEMBER 7th-10th  ( 4 days/ 3 nights )                                                                                                                        

COST:  £750 per person flying from Liverpool to Nice return, based on 2 people sharing a car and hotel room  

COST:  £750 per person flying from Gatwick to Nice return,   based on 2 people sharing a car and hotel room  

 

 

Our hotel is the 4* Bastide du Calalou and rooms are Confort Rooms which are 16-21 sq metres and on the second floor and south facing.

Room upgrades are available as follows:

To Romantique room  ( 23-30 sq metres )    + 35 euros per night

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

A "fly and drive" 4 day escorted car tour to Provence" in the south of France driving hire cars through some of the most stunning gorges and canyons in France and visiting, along the route, several of France's most beautiful villages,( les plus beaux villages)

Our hotel for the three nights is the 4* Bastide du Calalou in Moissac Bellevue, a hillside village just outside Aups in the Var region of Provence.
Arriving mid-morning in Nice airport we collect our hire-cars then leave the coast and head for the world famous artists' town of St.Paul de Vence our morning coffee stop. After coffee we drive through the stunning Loup gorge and climb up to Gourdon, one of France's most beautiful villages and our lunch stop. In the afternoon we drive part of the Napolean Way skirting around Grasse stopping in Tourtour for afternoon coffee. Our hotel for the next 3 nights is 10 miles west in the village of Moissac Bellevue. We spend the second day visiting the Ste. Croix lake our morning coffee stop then drive to Moustiers St.Marie, another of France's most beautiful villages, our lunch stop. After lunch we drive around one of Europe's largest gorges,the Gorge du Verdon, France's "Grand Canyon" before returning to our hotel. The following day is spent visiting local villages with coffee in Aups followed by Sillans la Cascade, where we visit the impressive waterfall, Cotignac is our lunch stop and  in the afternoon we visit Thoronet's Cistercian abbey hidden away in the woods before returning to our hotel for the last night of our tour. On Monday the 4th day of our tour, we return to Nice to catch the return flights to the UK

PROVISIONAL ITINERARY

 

Day 1 - Friday 7th December Nice to Moissac Bellevue, Aups, Provence

We fly early Friday morning from either Liverpool or Gatwick or Stansted into Nice arriving late morning and after picking up our hire cars head into the hills behind Nice stopping in St.Paul de Vence for coffee. We then drive through the dramatic Gorge de Loup in the Alpes Maritimes to Gourdon, one of France's most beautiful villages "beau village" and our lunch stop.

Gourdon is perched precipitously with a spectacular view of the Loup valley and the Mediterranean with Antibes and Cap Roux in the distance, (see photos below).

After lunch we descend to Grasse, the world famous perfume town, where we drive part of the Route Napolean to Bargemon  then drive through the Chateaudouble gorge into Provence's Var region  to Tourtour our afternoon coffee stop.

We then drive 10 miles west to our hotel for the next three nights, La Bastide de Calalou, at Moissac Bellevue, near Aups, (see photos below).

Day 2- Saturday, 8h December Local excursion, Gorges des Verdon  ( 90 miles)

Today we visit the magnificent Gorges du Verdon, France's "Grand Canyon," a breathtaking chasm and one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in France. Our route takes us via the scenic Lac de Sainte Croix, where our coffee stop is the pretty village of Ste.Croix,see photo below:

to Moustiers-Ste-Marie another "beau village"  and our lunch stop. Moustiers is in a stunning setting high on the edge of a ravine beneath craggy rocks. Above the village is the 12th century chapel of Notre-Dame de- Beauvoir. The narrow streets of Moustiers are full of shops selling the local ceramics, (see photo below left).

After coffee we continue in a clockwise direction alongside the Gorges du Verdon canyon, (see photos below).

From here we head back to the dramatic gorges stopping en-route to marvel at the stunning views, until we arrive back at the Lac de Sainte Croix, (see photos below), returning to our hotel.

Day 3- Sunday, 9th December Local excursion, Sillans la Cascade, Cotignac, Thoronet Abbey (60 miles)

Today we explore the local area visiting charming villages including Aups, and then Sillans-la-Cascade, our morning coffee stop where we can enjoy a country walk to see the magnificent waterfall, (see photo below right).We then drive on to Cotignac nestling under dramatic cave-pocked cliffs and our lunch stop, (see photo below  left).

After lunch we head south to Carces and then head into the forest to visit the Abbaye du Thoronet, founded in 1146 and the first Cistercian building in Provence.Lost in woodland it occupies a typically remote site.We then drive up to Villecroze a town set against a natural backdrop of caves on two levels which local lords in the 16th century turned into dwellings known as the Grottes Troglodytes.

We then return to our hotel.

Day 4- Monday, 10th December Moissac-Bellevue to Nice (60 miles)

Participants drive back to Nice in the morning and return hire cars.

Liverpool flight 10.45am back to the UK .

Gatwick flight 16.30pm back to the UK so participants can explore Nice after dropping the hire car off.
